Participatory Rural Appraisal/Assessment (PRA) is an approach that includes a range of participatory techniques and tools that enable stakeholders analyze their problems and then plan, implement and evaluate agreed-upon solutions. Key points of this manual refer to the following themes: • Farming System Mapping, • Seasonal Calendar, • Key Informant Interviews, • Transect walks, • Community Timeline Mapping In the field of land use planning, the PRA approach can be useful to gather information on a broad range of community activities; to develop a better understanding of system dynamics; and to appreciate the interlinked factors influencing land use and management. Most of all, the use of PRA tools encourages the participation of the local community in their own problem identification.
